“Unbound” becomes “Streams”

April 21, 2010 at 2:49 pm 16 comments

We’ve decided to give the threadsy Unbound column a new name: Streams. The Streams column contains exactly the same stuff as Unbound did, specifically your Facebook news feed and your Twitter streams. So this is really just a name change; the word “Unbound” was confusing a lot of people.

We’re keeping the name Inbound for the other column. Inbound is everything directed to you from email, Facebook, and Twitter. This includes email messages, Facebook messages, Facebook wallposts on your wall, Twitter @mentions, and Twitter Direct Messages. We’ve grouped all of these items into Inbound because we think they’re things you definitely want to know about.

How do you feel about the grouping of Inbound vs. Streams? Does it make your online communications simpler and more enjoyable? We’d love to hear your thoughts below.

Now, can I take my facebook out of the inbound and only have it in my “stream”? for people who have facebook notifications running to their email, and then coming through their inbound, this could cause duplicates. Also, it fills up my inbound very quickly and clouds more important messages, like twitter, flickr, and emails.
      You guys rock my world.

Inbound and Streams makes perfect sense. The grouping is spot on.

Would love to see some font size controls (settings) in order to customise the Streams fonts and maybe able to size the Streams column out a little wider.

Threadsy just keeps getting better and better, thanks.

I like the change. But I am still hoping for POP3 support. I can’t use email in Threadsy which is disappointing. So my use is limited.

The newly named “streams” column on the right is a bit narrow – in other words its inproportionally small compared to the left side.

Make it a tad wider for those of us reading news tweets, etc. Not everything is directed/@’d at some users as much as others. No need for left side to be so incredibly big compared to right. Imo.

Ah ha, working on that now! Thx for the feedback.

Awesome, looks better already. I’m really starting to utilize threadsy more than I ever thought. Thanks for taking input.

One other small note… I would suggest an option to have all link that a user clicks on “open in the background”, as opposed to opening a new tab which you are forced to look at immediately because it opens on top. Personally, I see a link… have to right click > open in new and keep browsing because I don’t necessarily want to look at that link immediately.. Having an option to open links in the background would be pretty sweet. Just a thought.

        Thanks, and keep it up!

Today’s my first day as a user and I think the setup is great. Email on the left, streaming fb & twitter on the right. It’s awesome. I can’t wait to see you progress further.

Two things I’d like to see in the future are 1) To enable sound notification for inbound, but not streams, and 2) to be able to mark certain twitter or facebook contacts as ‘favorites’, which would include anything they write (even if not directed at me) in the inbound column.

Great ideas, both. Thanks much for the input. We’ll get these on the list and prioritize them along with all the other things we want to do.

I would like to see a way to hide inbound. You can hide streams but not inbound. I would like that option.

Just tried out threadsy and like what I see so far.
Here are some key features that would make it a real must use for me:
    - Ability to change signatures based on mail account used to send message
    - Filtering of Twitter stream. My focus is on viewing the various lists not the main feed.
    - Ability to tag messages and add to a ToDo list. Use a GMail extension right now that is essential.

I like the separating of the inbound emails etc. from the threads, newsfeeds etc. It makes it easier.
