Monday morning modifications to Streams

July 12, 2010 at 3:18 pm 17 comments

We released a batch of tweaks this morning that mostly relate to the Streams column. None of them are major, but taken together, they will change the world. Well not really, but here’s a short list of the highlights:

  • Faster display of Streams and faster switching between Streams account filters.
  • Up to 5 times more Stream items if you leave threadsy open for a while.
  • Using Facebook’s Graph API in Streams. The Graph API is their preferred, latest, and most supported API. This insures that threadsy will be able to take advantage of the most up-to-date Facebook changes going forward.
  • Twitter search when click a hashtag in tweets (e.g., #worldcup).
  • Play Facebook videos and Youtube videos directly in Facebook posts.
  • Photos and videos posted as short URLs now appear in Streams. For example, a bit.ly link to a twitpic now shows the twitpic photo in threadsy.
  • See the number of Likes next to the thumbs up icon for every Facebook post.

We also pushed a bunch of bug fixes which we’ll update in our feedback forum.

Do you think you’ll ever tackle twitter lists? Seems to be the only real gap in your service (that I’ve noticed, at any rate).

      Thanks for your continued enthusiasm.

We’re listening but alas we’re a small team and have a lot of things we’ve deemed higher priority to complete first. Support for Twitter Lists remains in our Future priority bucket.

Do you have hints as to the higher priority items? Can we find them as user requests on Get Satisfaction or is it all internal and secret?

        Inquiring minds…

Nice work gang. Not that your office is at all like the movie, but I chuckled at the exemplar image-pop you chose for the blog post…good reminder about which approach to take here…now excuse me, I have a cubicle wall to kick out

Excited as always with the updates!

I’m not sure if it is just work here or a nuance of the update, but I haven’t seen any Twitter stream updates over the last couple of days. I don’t even see Twitter updates when I update my own status, just Facebook. I’ll make sure to check at home tonight.

Not sure why, please try clearing your browser cookies/cache. That might do the trick.

Not sure, Facebook periodically has some issues. Try clearing your browser cookies/cache and see if that fixes the problem.

    Two requests:

    1. Can you put an option to make certain aspects of your threadsy profile (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.) private? Don’t want random friend requests on my Facebook.

    2. Can you integrate the j.mp URL shortener?

You don’t have to this stuff, but it’d be great if you did! Thanks.

      Thx for the feedback.

Every person that sees your threadsy profile using threadsy sees a customized view of you based on what is publicly available to them. threadsy NEVER shows any private info to anyone that doesn’t already have access to it.

So, for example, if you email someone from an email address that is tied to another service, based on them knowing the email address they may be able to see your info on that service if you’ve made it public. To manage what info is public on those services, you must use the settings on the services themselves.

Integrating the j.mp shortener isn’t on our list right now, but twitter has announced that they’ll be releasing their own URL shortener soon: t.co We want to see how that plays out first.

Thanks for telling me about the privacy stuff. Also, the ‘t.co’ URL shortener sounds cool. Thanks again for the update!

Firstly gr8 work in integrating many webservices. Two things I like threadsy to improve…
    1. Mail Search..It is not upto the mark to move my primary gmail account to threadsy.
    2. How about showing a facebook photo album from threadsy like facebook videos ?. When I click a photo link it redirects me to facebook to open, which is not in synch with your concept of stream I guess.

Thx for the feedback. On the Inbound search, anything specific you’d like to see changed? On the FB photo albums in the streams, you’re right, this is in synch with our vision. It’s a bit involved to change so we’ll consider doing it down the road.

    Another few things:
    1. If I click on a persons name in the Inbound section I can only see their profile pic in the photo section
    2. Can you include a name search for all friends on FB
    3. Can you add RSS Reader support either for inbound or stream
