threadsy will be shutting down on November 2, 2011

SAN FRANCISCO, October 2011

Dear threadsy Community,

With sadness, we announce today that we will be shutting down threadsy on November 2, 2011.

threadsy is the world’s first truly integrated communication client. We gained traction swiftly among an enthusiastic community of users who enjoyed using threadsy to pull together their busy online social lives into a simple, enjoyable experience. More than just collecting email and the broader social web in one place, we helped our users organize multiple communication streams and quickly get deep context on the people with whom they communicate at just the right moment.

Our entire team has been extremely excited about and proud of threadsy since it started as just the seed of an idea back in 2008. From the start, we have been equally honored to serve a community of threadsy users who were not only loyal and passionate, but also creative and thoughtful, constantly bringing us fresh ideas about how to continually improve the user experience for everyone.

As enthusiastic as our team is about threadsy, the economics behind the application are challenging, and ultimately, we did not gain users quickly enough to justify continued investment. We hope to have the chance to work on threasdsy again someday.

In the meantime, we’ve shifted gears to work on a big, new opportunity that we are extremely excited about. We’re looking forward to telling you more about that soon.

We hope you have enjoyed using threadsy as much as we’ve loved bringing it to you!

Still interested in leveraging the threadsy technology and assets? Please do not hesitate to get in touch with us at info@threadsy.com.

[:: Queue Luke Skywalker sounding scream ::] Noooooooooo!

This is sad indeed! I don’t think I’ve found anything that ever came close to making things so easy for my e-mail (3 accounts+), Twitter, and Facebook as you guys did! They way you integrated everything was perfect. Threadsy was my first and most used bookmark in my browser. I pitched you to anybody I could, and most really liked it too!

I truly wish you guys all the best and can’t wait for the announcement of your next product!

    Long time user…

wow, I will miss Threadsy. I rarely check into my FB or email anymore. Isn’t there someone out there who can help you monetize? This engine is too amazing to lose.

    This is so sad :(

I have no idea how I’ll get to all of my accounts now! I’ll have to open around 6 tabs instead of just one!?

Thanks for the great service! It’s been amazing and you will be deeply missed!

I’ll have to stop using Threadsy immediately to re-adjust to the old ways. I don’t want to wait until the service shuts down and be completely stranded!

It is with great sorrow that I received the news :-(
I was threadsy user during a couple of years and was so enthusiastic and believed in the project that I shared with everyone I knew (and did not know) the potential of threadsy.
Good luck to all elements which belong and belonged to the threasdy team and the future will be the next dream to follow.

This can’t happen, having thought about it for a few minutes…

    1. I don’t even remember my facebook password, and I’m struggling to think of the one for Twitter. So far, not good.

    2. I spent many productive hours (at work as it happened, one day) looking for something, that turned out to be Threadsy – how am I suppose to get away with spending more productive hours looking for something that turned out to be Threadsy, that’s something else, that probably doesn’t exist…
    Also, not good.

    3. Lastly, the monetization thing…yeah. But, if we ignore that for a second (and I know it’s tricky), Threadsy is awesome and I will definitely not be happy for it to go…not to mention all the ‘forgot password?’ links I’ll be hitting in the next few days.

So one last appeal, don’t go…it’s bad for all of us:)

Threadsy has been a great platform. I have tried other products from TweetDeck to Seemic, but no one came close to Threadsy as to showing the timeline in real time. I will sure miss Threadsy. I had it bookmarked to open first in my browser. Hope the new product is as successful and useful as Threadsy. Cheers from Guatemala.

    Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo………..

    Where do I pay?

I have no alternative. I cannot manage my life online without Threadsy.

Any chance of keeping the service alive?

No development, no nothing, just the servers humming in the background quietly. Nobody will notice, I promise.

I too am very interested in getting the source code to at least run on my local servers. I understand the monetization issues but would LOVE to see the code get open sourced instead of suffering from bit rot for the rest of its days!

I am a developer and system admin by day and would love to push this to GitHub! PLEASE DO NOT LET THIS DIE!!!

I have literally no idea how I will now organise my accounts now. Nothing can really compare to the ease of use and responsiveness of Threadsy. I guess back to Mail.app for me. Any mailing list we can sign up to, to hear of this future project?

My sentiments are EXACTLY the same as the majority of the commenters here: First, Noooooooooooo! and then How will I replace Threadsy? I’ve used an evangelized Threadsy for two+ years now! For G-d’s sake, someone please at least put a decent social plugin into Thunderbird, Postbox or Outlook. First client to come close wins my business, hands down. Until then, sigh. Shalom, Threadsy!

I am sorry to see Threadsy go, especially since I can’t even remember some of the email addresses I had connected to the service. Will there be any way to recover the list of accounts linked to the service before it finally shuts down?
I ask, because I have been unable to connect to Threadsy due to server overload since the announcement.

This is both a great shock and sadness I feel in my heart. Whilst there could have been many more improvements to the user experience, Threadsy was still light years ahead of many other services.
It was always one of the first pages I’d fire up when accessing the web.

Hopefully, there will be a Phoenix reincarnation of Threadsy or something similar. Good luck to the Threadsy and wish you all the best for the future.

Threadsy is always the first site that I go to when I go to the web. The integration between all of my accounts, and the ding noise every time I got a new message are things that I am going to miss greatly. It’s a shock to me that a site like this isn’t a must-have for many more people, especially in our all-over-the-place society. You rarely see a person surfing on the web without multiple tabs opened up. Threadsy did a great job of bringing everything together in one site, and it’s a shame that it has to go.
Good luck in all your future endeavors!

WTF? Did any of you other users EVER get an email asking to pay for this fantastic method of checking email and social accounts simultaneously? If it only had better gcalendar function, it would have been PERFECT (in my book)!!

Seriously… I would have paid. I think a very VERY large percentage of your userbase would have paid. Instead of making it the best solution and growing old-school with your PAYING subscribers, you probably decided to listen to some jackass VC a-hole!!

Build it and they will come. You guys built “it” and lacked the patience to let “them” come to you. I frankly don’t care what other projects you have down the pike. If you so sorely lacked the marketing ability to make a fantastic project like Threadsy clear the launchpad, then why the hell would I invest any of my time or attention to any other project that you roll up to that same launchpad??

Before you think I’m just trolling or slamming you for fun, I was one of your biggest cheerleaders. I guarantee none of your other fans got you into Inc. Magazine! http://www.inc.com/magazine/20110401/my-favorite-tool-for-avoiding-data-overload.html

Does anybody here know of another email aggregator that gets close to Threadsy? Since I really need one, I’ve been looking to other products such as Fuser, but the interface is so unproffessional, too 90′s, and it is not as user-friendly as Threadsy. I read about Google Buzz, but there are so many detractors because apparently you have to let Google tweet and post in FB for you. I need something clean, professional… and idiot-proof.

Livego it is. It looks good, Thanks! The only odd aspect it the log in procedure. By what I see, you always log in with your twitter or MSN account. Or at least I have not found a way to get in with a user and password such as in Threadsy. But again, Livego looks fine. Thanks.

      • 33. Dillie-O  |  November 1, 2011 at 10:27 am

It’s funny you mention that, I’ve been looking over it too the last few days. I also saw one at fuser.com, but it seems to be VERY much in beta. I’m going to dig in a bit more and blog about it over the next few days.

Farewell Threadsy, you will be sorely missed.

      • 34. Erik Kullenberg  |  November 1, 2011 at 10:41 am

Not liking the livego.com interface as much. Scott, are you reading this? Can’t you guys CHARGE for Threadsy? I’m in. Who’s with me?

I agree Livego’s interface is not as great and the main drawback for me is one Facebook log-in only – and I have 2

I agree with all the comments so far about the paid option – just do it this way, so many of us (it seems) are willing to pay for it – and like Erik, I also don’t care too much about the other projects, it’s this one that I want to keep, so let’s do it!

The comments here showing dissapointment and sadness leave me wonder about the level of dependence we have developed to the internet and things that are mere tools, which by the way did not exist 10 years ago, but now are apparently a must. Just imagine the outrage in society if M. Z. woke up one day and decided Facebook will shut down? Yes, Threadsy was awesome, and I miss it. But think about it for a second. To what degree have we abandoned our lives in the hands of social networks and communication tools? (Tools. Or are we the ones being “used”?)
